In 2008 Clifton Securities set up an office in Colombia to capitalise on the rapidly increasing appetite for institutional investments and we are currently in the process of developing a number of high profile projects with a variety of local partners.
Clifton Securities are currently responsible for the development of a USD$100m project on the Canal Del Dique near Cartagena. This comprises 125 hectares of Manufacturing land in a Free Trade Zone directed at international corporates. This asset is uniquely positioned to capitalise on the growth in Cartagena’s container Port, the close proximity of the Panama Canal expansion, a general shift in industry to the Caribbean Coast and the rapidly changing perception in Colombia’s Macro outlook. In addition, Clifton is currently in the process of raising finance for the construction of a USD$150m cellulosic ethanol plant to the north of Bogota which will use discarded sugar cane husks to create 90,000 gallons of ethanol per day. This will form an important part of the Central Governments commitment to a produce a 15% ethanol content in gasoline and provide an opportunity to take Colombia’s sugar cane industry, which has the highest yields in the world, into the 21st Century. Clifton Securities are currently evaluating a number of additional real estate assets and private equity type situations across a variety of sectors in Colombia. We have all the necessary infrastructure in place and are interested in partnering with investors who would like some exposure to Colombia.
